The Art-Reach crew is back at full strength!  We are excited to welcome Julian Harper to Art-Reach as our new Communications Manager. Julian brings with him a unique and personal perspective as a visual artist with chronic illness, and has a particular passion for the arts and accessibility.

As an artist, Julian has exhibited nationally and internationally including, Art Dusseldorf, Czong Institute for Contemporary Art, and Icebox Project Space at the Crane Arts Center. He believes that art has the power to change Philadelphia but that the change has to be authentic and inclusive. In his words, “Access to the arts is a right. Reframing narratives around who can create and engage in the arts is a personal responsibility. I am lucky to be a part of the rich Philadelphia arts community, and I am excited for this opportunity to amplify the mission of Art-Reach to create a more inclusive city.”

As Communications Manager at Art-Reach, Julian will help reframe the stories we tell about accessible arts engagement. He will center the community to elevate their voice, and ensure that the moment we have to advance systemic change is shared with as many people as possible. Julian comes to Art-Reach after having been a PennPraxis Design Fellow, where he was involved in a robust community engagement effort and managed the production of a video series for the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation. That project included partners Little Giant Creative, Make the World Better Foundation, and SEAMAAC. Prior to his Fellowship with PennPraxis, Julian received his Master’s in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, and served as a Media Production Specialist with Brigham Young University.

“I cannot wait for Julian to join us; his passion for creating art and infusing his artistic vision into design will push us further and raise the bar. Filtering that approach through the lens of his lived experience with our community will keep us true to our core value of ‘nothing about us without us.’ shared John Orr, Executive Director at Art-Reach. “It’s such a powerful combination that has the potential to completely revamp the way we tell our story at Art-Reach.”

Julian’s experience as a PennPraxis Design Fellow combined with his background in art and media production creates a phenomenal opportunity that’s not lost on Art-Reach’s Executive Director, “During the pandemic, Art-Reach did its best to create content and embrace multimedia approaches to programming but it always felt a little like we were building the plane while it was flying. I am excited that we are bringing an unprecedented level of design and production experience into the organization at exactly this moment.”

Julian will join the Art-Reach team on February 28, 2022. Please join us in welcoming him to Art-Reach!
