In recent years, Art-Reach has focused on Inclusion + Accessibility within our programming efforts. For us, the arts & cultural sector needs to not only invite diverse audiences into their spaces, but actually make sure that people with disabilities, and low-income communities, are represented as participants. The largest project in our 31-year history brought together six students from St Katherine’s Special Education School and eight dancers from Pennsylvania Ballet’s second company to create an original dance piece titled “I AM.” Even more exciting was that the process was filmed and resulted in a 40-minute documentary.
Join us as we invite the project’s choreographer, Jessica Kilpatrick, and the Pennsylvania Ballet’s Director of Community Engagement, Sarah Cooper, for a screening of the “I AM” film and discussion about the importance of (I+A) within the DEI conversation.
This event is presented in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. To learn more about the Cultural Alliance’s DEI efforts, go to www.philaculture.org/dei
