Art-Reach at Philadelphia Flower Show

A member of Associated Services or the Blind walks arm in arm with Art-Reach staff member Angela Wang at Art-Reach's 2017 Audio-described tour of the Philadelphia Flower Show. Behind them, an arch full of colourful orchids, as well as other tour attendees.

What a morning at the The Philadelphia Flower Show! Andrea Wand and Nicole Sardella did a fabulous job verbally describing a series of luscious displays for Associated Services for the Blind.  This year was extra special as we were able to add an ASL interpreted tour thanks to Hands UP Productions.

This year we had the opportunity to have a touch component offered by four exhibitors. The Groups were invited to walk on the lush grass of a romantic patio in Holland from Irwin Landscaping, Inc. Laurel-Brook Gardens introduced us to their prized cow cutouts, and let the group feel stalks of wheat they grow on their pasture. We loved walking through the interactive “Scene from a Postcard” from the Mercer County Community College exhibitors. The groups had a sweet smelling finish stopping by Waldorf Orchid’s exhibit as multiple strands of orchids were passed around to smell and feel their bright waxy pedals.

Many thanks to PHS: Pennsylvania Horticultural Society for allowing us the opportunity to enjoy the show.
