Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 at 2:00pm

The Lantern Theatre Company Presents: Heroes

Gustave, Philippe, and Henri – war heroes, all – are plotting an escape. They've had enough of the tortures of their confinement: dictatorial captors, untrustworthy fellow prisoners, and far too many birthday parties. Indeed, life in a retired soldiers' home is almost unbearable! So, while keeping each other company on the back patio, they hatch a plan to escape to Indochina, or at least to a picnic under the poplars on a nearby hill. Winner of London's prestigious Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Tom Stoppard's adaptation of this French play is playful, bawdy, and heartbreakingly funny.

Friday, June 14th, 2013 at 7:30 pm

Pennsylvania Ballet Presents: Forsythe & Kylián

Celebrate the evolution of Pennsylvania Ballet’s repertoire with Company premieres by two of today’s most influential choreographers, plus an exciting World Premiere. Artifact Suite offers William Forsythe's singular brand of aggressive, angular movement. His daring interpretation of the ballet lexicon boasts lightning-quick rhythm, to-the-hilt extension, and unmatched precision. Equally kinetic yet strikingly soulful, Jirí Kylián’s seamless, fluid vocabulary propels his somber Forgotten Land. New to our repertoire, Kylián found inspiration for this piece in a painting of water eroding the shore. Also on the program, Choreographer in Residence Matthew Neenan creates his 14th commission for the Company, with music from Felix Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words.

The Ritz Theatre Presents: Xanadu

It's hilarity on wheels when Xanadu takes the stage as our summer musical offering! A beautiful Greek muse descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California, in a quest to inspire a struggling artist to achieve the greatest creation of his life - a roller disco. Featuring popular '80s songs like "Magic", "All Over The World", "Suddenly", "I'm Alive", "Evil Woman", "Have You Never Been Mellow" and "Xanadu". Winner of the 2008 Broadway critics' award for "Best New Musical", this family friendly musical is a roller-skating, disco-dancing comedy adventure, and a spoof of the 1980s film featuring Olivia Newton-John of the same title. Book by Douglas Carter Beane and music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne (ELO, The Travelling Wilburys) and John Farrar.

Art-Reach, VSA of Pennsylvania, and People's Light & Theatre Company Present: Noises Off

Lacy lingerie and plates of sardines appear both in the air and underfoot while a dysfunctional company of actors prepare for the opening performance of the play-within-a-play Nothing On. They flub their lines, forget their props, miss their cues, and somehow survive each others' flaws, foibles, theatrics, and love triangles. From award-winning playwright Michael Frayn, Noises Off is a wickedly funny revelation of what can happen on the other side of the curtain.
