Friday, May 23rd, 2008 at 8:00pm

Interact Theatre Presents: House, Divided

The Goldstein family of Philadelphia is torn apart when older brother Louis decides to embrace Jewish orthodoxy and move to Israel during the height of the Vietnam war. Betrayed and bewildered, Louis’ younger brother Douglas builds a life around peace activism. Well over 20 years later, Louis is a retired officer of the Israeli army and Douglas is a Senior Director with Amnesty International. Divided by deep familial wounds and opposing religious and political beliefs, the two brothers are forced to re-engage one another when their sons, Oren and Paul, make surprising life decisions of their own. HOUSE, DIVIDED is a challenging and timely examination of family, faith and politics, and how the desire to distance ourselves from our past may only bring it closer to home in the future.

Promo Photo for Carnival of the Animals

Friday, June 6th, 2008 at 8:00pm

Pennsylvania Ballet Presents: Carnival of the Animals

Don’t miss the Company Premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s critically acclaimed Carnival of the Animals. This large ensemble piece tells the story of Oliver Percy, a young boy who spends the night in New York's Museum of Natural History. Throughout the evening, the creatures of the museum come to life, and the animals oddly resemble people he knows in real life; hyenas are his classmates, hens and cockerels their parents, weasels and rats their younger siblings. With witty and amusing narration, written by John Lithgow, Carnival of the Animals is set to a fabulous score by Camille Saint-Saëns.

Promo Photo for Our Town

Friday, June 20th, 2008 at 8:00pm

Arden Theatre Presents: Our Town

Winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Our Town has become a much beloved classic and is, perhaps, the most frequently produced play by an American playwright. Interweaving past and present, Wilder's stark and simple masterpiece chronicles the daily life of close knit families and reveals the universal truths that connect us all. Act I (Daily Life) will be played at the Arden's Haas Stage. At intermission, the audience will walk through the churchyard to Christ Church where we will stage the wedding of Act II (Marriage and Love). To further involve our Philadelphia community, the theatre will bring together different musical groups – one night a boys choir, the next a gospel choir, the next perhaps a string quartet? Each night they will have special community guests as part of the production.
