Independence Starts Here Promotions Coordinator 

Start Date: March 2010

Reports To: Executive Director

What will I be doing? Teaming closely with Art-Reach's Executive Director, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that Art-Reach fulfills its obligations as a leader of the Independence Starts Here cultural-access initiative (ISH). ISH, which is jointly led by Art-Reach and VSA Arts of PA, provides resources to help arts organizations become more accessible and promotes accessible cultural events to potential audiences. Art-Reach is primarily responsible for the audience-development and promotional aspect of the ISH mission, and the ISH Promotions Coordinator is the Art-Reach team member who ensures that we meet our responsibility for the initiative.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Confirm dates of accessible arts events with VSA Arts of PA or arts venues
  • Update the ISH calendar on the Philly Fun Guide as needed
    Prepare and send the monthly ISH email of accessible events
  • Post and link the monthly email from the Fun Guide to the Art-Reach website
  • Contact assisted-living facilities and other appropriate groups about ISH and schedule meetings or presentations with them
  • Coordinate distribution of ISH flyers with participating arts venues
  • Assist as needed with any scheduled ISH events

What skills do I need? 

If you love marketing, public relations, outreach and public speaking this is the perfect opportunity for you! To perform this volunteer role successfully, an individual must possess a high aptitude of emotional intelligence. This position requires strong written, creative, leadership, organizational, communications and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a firm commitment to customer service. Primary skills include:

  • Being articulate and comfortable speaking to a large group
  • Being adept with social media, Microsoft Outlook and the Internet
  • Paying attention to details
  • Meeting deadlines
  • Possessing strong writing and communication skills, including telephone

Ambassador Trainer

Start Date: Immediately, open ended

Schedule: Alternating night or weekend day one time per month

What will I be doing?

Assist/Lead Introductory Workshop Training Sessions for new Ambassadors accepted into the program

What skills do I need? 

Exceptional public speaking skills and command of an audience, passion for teaching service standards and communication skills, and willingness to run training sessions after regular business hours.  In addition, you should be able to work with Microsoft PowerPoint during presentations.  This work is done in the Art-Reach office.

Fall Interns   

Start Date: Fall 2010 - flexible

Reports To: Program Manager and Associate Director

Schedule: Business Hours - at least 8 hours per week in one full 8 hour shift

Service Length: 3 months/flexible

What will I be doing?

Interns experience all aspects of the daily workings at Art-Reach including arranging and hosting trips for members. Responsibilities include assisting Art-Reach staff, processing member requests, securing ticket pledges, assisting with current workshops, data entry, assisting in event planning, writing feature articles, updating web site copy, researching opportunities for new constituency relationships and assisting in developing these relationships. This experience is well suited for anyone looking for experience in non-profit organizations.

What skills do I need? 

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, have knowledge in Windows Operating System, be detail oriented and organized, be able to work independently or as part of team, be willing to take initiative and direction, and have a strong desire to learn new things everyday.

Education/Experience:

Ambassadors should be attending college or have a completed college level education. Experience with human service agencies, disability community, and/or the arts a plus.

What will I be doing?

You will be picking up tickets from theatre box offices, meeting Art-Reach groups scheduled to attend performances and museum visits, taking attendance, distributing tickets, connecting with groups running late, and remaining with groups throughout their experience assisting the Guide Host.

What skills do I need? You will be fully trained in the policies and procedures associated with this assignment. You should be excellent at customer service and care, be compassionate, be able to manage unexpected situations as they occur and be willing to have fun.

You will be assisting the Greeter Host before performances, meeting Art-Reach groups scheduled to attend performances at their seats, and offering information on the venue and the performance. Your focus is to remain attentive to Art-Reach groups throughout performances and trips in order to guide groups through their experience.

What skills do I need? You will be fully trained in the policies and procedures associated with this assignment. You should be excellent at customer service and care, be compassionate, be able to manage unexpected situations as they occur and be willing to have fun.

What will I be doing?

This opportunity will match you up with a Specific Member Agency with unique needs so that you can assist with client care while they attend events.  You will accompany this member agency to multiple events that they will schedule through Art-Reach.

What skills do I need? 

You will be fully trained in the policies and procedures of member needs in regards to client care and accessible needs.  You may need to lift clients from wheelchairs to seats or vehicles.
